Passionflower
Passion flower (passiflora incarnata) is used an herbal supplement, and can be taken as a tea and tincture. Passionflower is known as a nervine, which is an herb that supports the nervous system. Some studies suggest it might help relieve insomnia and anxiety. It appears to boost the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in your brain. This compound lowers brain activity, which may help you relax and sleep better.
It was used historically in treating anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and hysteria. Pregnant women should avoid taking this supplement, as it could promote uterine contractions, and passion flower may cause excessive sedation if taken with medication. Please consult your practitioner before using any supplement along with prescribed medication.
